It was my very first time
This was my first glass of Vinho Verde. I had arrived in Lisbon a few hours earlier. I was big-time jetlagged. I was hot and tired from walking up and down hills in the Alfama. I was hungry. When it started to rain I stepped into an unassuming little restaurant that had a table with a view of the street.
No one else was in the place because it was late afternoon; after lunch and before dinner. I let the waiter choose some food for me and I decided to order a glass of Vinho Verde. I had read something about it being a Portuguese wine that was bottled and drunk very young, was slightly effervescent, and was very popular in Portugal. Let me just say that although I remember the food was good, I don't remember what I had. I do remember the wine because it was incredibly refreshing on that hot day. I'm pretty sure I had a second glass.
