State of the Union 2020

Chosen for Arts Center East, Vernon CT, Coping juried exhibit, Sept. 4-27, 2020.

They were burning brush at the transfer station on a hot July day. I had watched too much TV news that week and the flames and smoke looked to my jaded eyes like the fires of hell. That image became an anchor for this photo collage that I hope illustrates some of the deep divisions, inequities, and strife in this country and the world. We must do better.

Sometimes the darkness feels overwhelming.

President Obama's speech last night was chilling and his dismay and even fear was palpable.

As Michelle Obama said,

“We have got to grab our comfortable shoes, put on our masks, pack a brown bag dinner and maybe breakfast too, because we’ve got to be willing to stand in line all night if we have to."

And, we have to do a lot more to save this country. Write to all our representatives to support the Post Office. Get a ballot asap and mail it back the same day (or drop off). Find someone to help vote, And, And, And......
