"Night Skiing" 5:365 - 2013

"Night Skiing"

#5 of 365 - Project 365:2013

January 5, 2013

Saturday, I had the pleasure of taking two of my boys up to Stevens Pass Ski Resort for a day of boarding and skiing. The boys snowboard, I ski. I tried snowboarding a couple of seasons ago, getting myself a private lesson to try and learn, but this old dog (having skiid since I was about 9), just couldn't get the hang of it. I'm used to facing down the mountain, not being sideways. Anyway, it was a great day!

We stayed on the lift/run called Brooks most of the day as it was hardly being used. Despite being very busy up there, we could almost ski right back onto the chair for another run. Plus, it was snowing the entire day, so the lack of use on that run made for some great powder. It was cold, but not overly, and our layers kept us nice and toasty. After about eight runs though, my old body was done, and headed up to the lounge for a glass of wine. The boys stayed another couple hours, meeting up with some friends for a few runs on the "Hogs Back" lift. We stayed up there nearly nine hours!

I took my old 7MP Sony point & shoot as I didn't want to lug around a DSLR. I bought this camera several years ago for a trip to Virginia and Washington DC with the family. I wanted something I could just put into a cargo pocket of my shorts. It's a great little camera with bright light, but has also struggled in low light. Just not a great camera for low light at all. But, as they say, "The best camera is the one you have with you." So it seems... Are there any P&S cameras that shoot RAW? :)

Once I was done skiing and the night lights came on, I REALLY was wishing I had my D300, my 12-24 and a tripod... it was so gorgeous and would have made some great shots! Next time, I think I'll bring my DSLR, but wrap and hide in the secret compartment of my rig, pulling it out at the end of my runs while the boys keep going. :)
