11.23 Inspiration

The self-portrait was taken yesterday at Big White Ski Resort. The fifth time I went snowboarding. Last week I decided my knee was strong enough to snowboard only on groomed green runs.

All the sudden I was on Goats Kick (black diamond). I saw the most magical beam of light in the glades down below. Enchanted, I followed the light into the glades. I was feeling intense euphoria and fear simultaneously. After following some pillow lines in the trees, I had to stop myself. My knee has not fully recovered. I stopped. I needed to diverge my attention to sometime else.

Instead I took another self-portrait on top of the mountain. Self-portrait on top a ski resort is a tedious task. I had to collect my gear and costume. I grabbed my massive pink wedding dress into my black backpack. As well my broken tripod. T-bar to the top of the mountain. I looked around to see an appropriate spot. A place where people would not see me. In the distance, the mountain slopes up rather than down. Thereby making it undesirable to other riders on the mountain. I reached my desired location. I took my snowboard off my feet and stepped into the snow. The snow reaches my hip.

After hiking in the snow for ten minutes, I stopped. The light was quickly disappearing. I grabbed my camera, hooked it to my broken tripod. Attached my timer. Finding out the timer did not work. I had to utilize the ten-second timer on my camera. The struggle was real and cold. Paired with the technical difficulties was my abilities to be the subject my imagination.

I should have used an additional light source, but the extreme winter temperatures prevented me from doing so. I need to improve my photography skills to accommodate for the extreme winter weather!
