Burn this world

3.23

Theme: Okanagan

Video edit on Facebook

Taken across the lake from Shelter Cover wild fire near West Kelowna Canada. During the third evening, the fire was burning on the shores of Okanagan Lake.

As mentioned in the prior image this photoshoot was spontaneous. I came to the location without any expectations. My only goal was not to tear my ACL again. I choose a location on the beach directly in front of the fire. I brought three different outfits with me. Hoping to capture something.

Once I finished this photoshoot and started editing my images, I began to think about this experience. I was taking a self-portrait in front of a forest fire across the lake. What does this experience say about myself? I live in a reality where I can watch the world burn both literally and figuratively. It's not every day can I look at a forest burn to the ground. A beautiful surreal experience in itself.

Every day, the world is burning. Almost every day I ignore the suffering of million of people. As a Canadian living in the Okanagan, it's easy to distract myself from the injustices of the world. Easy to find things to consume my mind, as I do with my photography.

When I start thinking about the world, I get overwhelmed by the problems and feel powerless. I've accepted I must choose my battles. The only thing I can do now is helping those who I can physically interact with in my daily life.

I've decided my self-portrait project would only involve 23 different photograph locations. Or else I could quickly end this project.
