thunderbolt's lookout - barrington tops

a section of the great escarpment - the steep eastern slopes of the great dividing range - at the barrington tops national park

 

this lookout is named after a local bushranger (a bit like a cross between a rustler and a bandit)

 

the top of the plateau (the area has more than 100km2 over 1400m altitude and is the largest alpine area north of the snowy mountains in australia) is a snow-gum alpine grassy woodland, the steep slopes below are clothed in a virtually untouched sub-tropical rainforest
