bjd - arkaroola april 2010 - dg yudnamutana hodgkinsons am

mineral exploration site 'hodgkinsons' in the yudnamutana gorge - a great spot for a uranium mine, do you think?

the south australian government, believe it or not, thinks 'possibly so' and calls this 'seeking a balance'!

the scars you can see criss-crossing this hillside are evidence of some of the mining history of the area - some very recent - some decades old; all, apparently, 'rehabilitated' to meet the standards of the state department of minerals and energy

note the extensive erosion still taking place at this site

under the state government's plan this area is still open to exploration drilling (which looks like this, folks!) and 'temporary' access tracks (how 'temporary' do these works look to you?)

mining proposals are to be assessed by both PIRSA and the DEH, and (undefined) 'infrastructure' installation is allowable
