Does "Womb Music" Make a Difference?
Does it really make a difference if I play music for, read to, or talk to my baby in utero?
I used to talk to my baby in utero all the time, especially when my due date came and went. I would beg: "Please come out! I'll give you a lollipop." Trust me. It didn't work!
Research tells us that babies in the womb do hear and do respond to stimulation, such as music, voices and even the vacuum cleaner. What is unclear is the long-term implications of such stimulation. Will hearing Good Night Moon at 24 weeks make your child a better reader? There's no way to know. However, if it soothes you to read to your pregnant belly, go for it!
Same goes for music. Though I generally don't recommend playing classical music to your belly unless you normally listen to classical music. After all, what's the point of playing it while she's on the inside, when she won't hear it again on the outside?!
