Castle Acre Priory, Norfolk
Standing in the ruined nave and looking towards the still largely intact west front.
Since the suppression of monasteries in the 1530s the finely worked facing stones of the columns and walls have been stolen to make buildings in the nearby Castle Acre town. Theory has it that the west front mercifully survived because its stones would have to be carried the furthest!
