A man in a yellow shirt resembling Wang gets down on one knee to peep into Étant donné (1946-1966), the final work of the pioneering conceptual artist Marcel Duchamp. The sawdust and the tools scattered on the ground suggest that Wang has vandalised Duchamp's work. Next to the man stand the artists Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys dressed as police to guard Duchamp's legacy. Just as St. Thomas-the religious figure mentioned in the work's title- doubted Jesus' resurrection, Wang remains devoted to expressing scepticism about the conceptual ideas that dominated China's art scene.
