Here are a few screen shots from a FaceTime tour of GALERIE FÜR FOTOGRAFIE given to me and my friend Tommi's son Elihu by GAF curator Martin, who's face appears at the end.
Anja Niedringhaus' photographs are currently on exhibition at GALERIE FÜR FOTOGRAFIE . Below is the translated text from their website :
"On April 4, 2014, the German photographer and Pulitzer Prize winner Anja Niedringhaus was killed in an attack on her and her colleague Kathy Gannon in Afghanistan. It was above all the photos from the crisis areas such as Kosovo, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Libya and Israel, which have made them famous. It never went around her pure war illustration. Rather, especially the victims of the war were the focus of her pictures. The injured, the oppressed, the mourners, the bereaved. But the soldiers, in which they also saw victims of war, she met with humanistic respect. Even in the most difficult and dangerous situations Anja Niedringhaus was in search of the human, driven by a belief in the meaning of their work. The images that ensued would differ from many other images of war. They are honest and straight. In any form of photographic grandstanding it has waived in her photography, photos simplistic avoided."
*The exhibition was organized with support from the Associated Press and Michael Ebert.
