Torre del Muelle

 

This the Wharf tower is one of three watchtowers on the coast of the municipality of Benalmádena , province of Málaga , Andalusia , Spain .

 

Unlike other watchtowers of the Malaga coast , the Dock Tower was built after the reconquest of the Christian territory. Its strategic location allowed visualize the coast of the Alboran Sea and by fire and smoke communicate with other towers and nearby towns in the presence of enemy ships and pirates off the coast.

 

Its name is due to the existence of a spring from Roman times and there is a sheltered cove made the Andalusian Muslims continue using it. The date of construction of the tower is unknown but there is evidence of the location in the dock area and a coastal defense system. The current state of the tower corresponds to reconstruction was done in the sixteenth century . It is shaped like a truncated cone 11 meters high with the entrance at 7 meters and a half of its base, which is up by scale.
