The Little Doorway

Taken at the top of the tower of Castle Książ in Wałbrzych. I learned later this tower was pretty much off limits to tourists but that a couple guides made some exceptions for a few individuals. When the ladies at the front desk learned I had gone to the top, their faces showed a mixture of surprise and apprehension. Since they only spoke Polish (as did my guide for the castle), I had to have the only fluent bilingual person around explain to them how "topping" the castle came about. Their expressions then changed to more amused but clearly still a bit apprehensive.

The climb was awesome, with the best part being near the top with the steep, narrow, semi-circular wooden steps hugging the tower wall and with the wall ready to bang your head at any moment of inattention. Some parts had a wooden railing; some parts did not. The exit/entry door at the top was half the size of a grown adult. Once at the top, it was a small area to be standing and even having 5 people there would've been near shoulder-to-shoulder in a circle. Needless to say, the guide remained about 7 or 8 landings below. Got my money's worth!! :)
