I'll stop soon, I promise. It really is fascinating me though (even though I know I'm just doing variations on the same thing). I think this is my best effort so far. Not sure how accurate it is, but I think it looks pretty...
This is the same elevation data (NASA SRMT data) and OS Open Data for the boundaries, roads, lakes and rivers.
Used a different piece of software for the hillshading this time (mainly because QGIS and SAGA kept kicking out one of the tiles - so did a search for something else). Found the 'Relief Visualisation Toolbox'. Does the same things that QGIS and SAGA do (presumably using the same tools) but it did what I wanted, so all is good.
The only photoshopping done was to boost the shadows a little and sharpen the output. Everything else is straight out of QGIS/QGIS2THREEJS.
