Washington: Historic Building

Washington, California; an old stone building left from the gold rush era.

 

Washington was settled by miners in 1849 during the California gold rush. Like most gold rush era towns, it grew fast and then, after the gold played out, it settled into a more normal small town. Today it has a population of less than two hundred people.
