Burke, Idaho
A few commercial buildings remain in what used to be the central area of town.
Burke was settled in 1884 after deposits of silver and lead were found in the area. The town thrived as numerous mining operations were started. The population reached a peak of about 1400 in 1910. As always, the mines eventually began to close as the ore played out and the town started its decline. The last major mine closed in 1982 and Burke became a ghost town. A few random buildings and homes plus the huge remains of the Hecla Mine complex are all that is left.
