The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away
This is the title of the installation by Yayoi Kusama, part of her "Infinity Mirror Rooms" exhibit in Washington's Smithsonian Hirshhorn Mueum
For her performance of "When We Were Young" at the Brit Awards, Adele sang in front of an elaborate set of panels displaying twinkling footage shot in Yayoi Kusama's highly photographed Infinity Mirrored Room at The Broad museum in Downtown LA - which looks exactly like the room shown here.
"It is an immersive environment that fosters an out-of-body experience, heightens one’s senses, and produces a repetitive illusion through the use of lights and mirrors. Similar in appearance to stars in the galaxy, hundreds of LED lights hang and flicker in a rhythmic pattern that seems to suspend both space and time. The visitor becomes integral to this work as his or her body activates the environment while simultaneously vanishing into the infinite space."
It would have helped if you were allowed to spend more than the perceived 15 seconds (allegedly 30) in this confined space - but lines were so long, they had to limit viewing time...
