Lower Linton Falls
Happy Waterfall Wednesday! Here is a shot from the base of Lower Linton Falls. Although not my best or most compelling waterfall image, this one was not easy to capture. The nearly 1 and 3/4 mile hike is easy, I just got off path for the last 1/3rd mile which required climbing over at least 12 downed trees, vs taking a leisurely walk alongside the lake before ascending up to the falls.
By the time I made my way up the steep hillside to see the falls, it became evident that reaching the base is not easy as the canyon walls are very steep and crumpling away. I scouted around for a half hour looking for the safest way down. At that point the crumpling canyon helped my decent by crumpling away beneath my feet. I figured I might as well take a few pictures before I worry about how I was going to get back up and proceeded down further, over more trees and huge slippery moss covered boulders and into the water..
Then of course the rain kicked in, the winds started up and I started worrying about being stuck by myself in this canyon, in the middle of nowhere. As my mind continued to focus on worst case scenarios and the weather started to unload, I forgot do do things like check my images or dry my lens... After snapping a few pictures I slowly made my way back to hug the canyon wall and slip and slide back up. Ripped wadders, cut hands, covered in mud, and a pretty banged up knee later and I was back on safe ground! At that point I reviewed my images and wish I would of taken more time to capture some better angles and of course wiped away the water drops that ruined most of the images I took.... But since this falls almost got the best of me (at lease in my mind), i decided i must share what I got.
