Henline Falls

I have wanted to visit the Opal Creek area for many years and finally got the chance yesterday to do a little exploring. I will say when researching for my trip, there were a few discrepancies in the directions to the area in my books and some of the locations of the various falls are vague. So I want to thank Christina, Lynn and Greg for both having inspiring photo’s of the area and for helping me with directions as well.

As I eagerly approached the Opal Creek area, I was relieved that a thick cloud cover was starting roll in. I also noticed the higher elevation trees had a large dusting of snow thanks to our interesting weather of late. Then to my dismay, the thick clouds started to open up with snow, and as I was getting closer the road was getting more snow covered! When I reached the trail head of Henline Falls I was in about 3” of snow, not at all what I was expecting or wanting!

Henline Falls is a beautiful 90 foot waterfall that spills into an amazing green splash pool by an old mine shaft. I also made an attempt to visit some of the “family falls” that are located very close, but chose the wrong, incredibly steep, slick, long trail, that led me to an overlook view point of the valley. I did explore and hike quite a bit and now have a pretty decent understanding of the area and will be making a return trip very soon!
