CERT Earthquake Simulation

Los Angeles Fire Department CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Unit volunteers organized in Sylmar, CA to put their skills and abilities to the test. They conducted a simulation of a devastating earthquake that hits the San Fernando Valley, depleting first responding resources. CERT members from neighboring cities joined LAFD CERT members of our community to do "The Greatest Good for the Greatest Number of People." Search and Rescue K9s, LAFD UAVs, and over 120 CERT volunteers searched through the simulated disaster site of the Oakridge Mobile Home Community for residents in need of help. Utilizing their CERT training, these dedicated volunteers successfully organized CERT teams to conduct damage assessments, establish a medical treatment area, and extract trapped victims.
