Spring Desert Rain

An unexpected spring shower rains down in western Death Valley in this view highlighted by patches of sunshine on mesquite bushes and turbulent clouds. It was a relatively wet year, and the result of that can be seen in the vibrant green that is not such a common sight in this lowest, driest, and hottest place in North America. The mesquite here is nourished by an enormous alluvial fan from Furnace Creek, the ephemeral creek rather than the town itself.
