A Rare White Bellied Minivet sining in the rain
A beautiful small minivet ~15cms long with a very limited range across the country. This is an endemic bird to the country and many aspects of the bird are not well researched. I believe it is considered rare in most of its range. These are found in a particular location around 2 hours from my place during the months of July - Sept - the rainy season when they nest.
This year, the monsoon rains started very early from last week of May, so when we went to check for the bird, we found a pair active and foraging in the scrublands.
It is found in scrub jungles on the edges of forests and thought to prefer wet moist conditions. It is shy bird and one of the smallest minivets around. I suspect the nest building is underway and the pair may start a family in a few weeks from now.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.
