A Cinnamon Bittern landing in a reed bed

A beautiful bittern commonly found in the swampy areas, around waterbodies, reeds and wet paddyfields. Named after the rich cinnamon color of the body, this is a resident bird in India, and seen active around the end of summer and in the rainy season when its nesting season starts. Its preferred habitat is reed beds on the edges of shallow lakes, wet rice / paddy fields, swamps and marshy areas surrounded by reeds.

We were exploring a new area next to a nearly dry lake with lots of reeds adjacent to paddyfields and it turned out to be awesome! We sighted 2-3 nesting Yellow Bitterns, 2 Cinnamon and 3 Black Bitterns along with several Greater Painted Snipes in the area.
