A Greater Painted Snipe landing on the edge of a lake
A beautiful resident snipe in the country easily seen during the summers -The bird is prized by the photographers due to its beautiful plumage. The one here is a male. The species exhibits reverse sexual dimorphism - meaning females are more beautiful than the males.
Outside of the breeding season they are quite hard to spot. They are resident birds, but hard to sight them since they camouflage very well. Also, the bird times its presence to align with the sowing reason and the post harvest season when the fields are wet and muddy both the times. The bird has a preference to the wet areas where we find them pretty much there most of the time.
I stumbled on this while walking on dry lake bank with lots of grass.
Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.
