A Pair of Wood Sandpipers sparring with each other
This is probably is one of the smallest of the Shanks / Sandpipers we have here. It is a migratory bird from Europe / Scottish highlands generally seen in winters. Research indicates that they migrate around 3500-4000 kms with roughly around 1200 Km hops (stops) .
They are normally found on the edges of small freshwater lakes that are filled up during rainy season. The birds prefer shallow wet areas such as paddyfields and lake banks and are often sighted in small numbers like 2-5.
I think they were fighting for the perch even though there are several perches nearby. This aggressive activity lasted a few seconds at best, but it was fun watching them. Behind was a paddy field which was half brown (indicative of readiness for harvest) in bright light making for a wonderful backdrop.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback.
