A Black Winged Kite taking flight

A resident kite of the country and quite common in our state. They dot the countryside usually perched on trees, wires and on posts in the fields hunting for small rodents and reptiles in the fields.

The birds hunting pattern is a bit different that it is one of the few raptors that hover. After sighting a prey, they hover in the air for almost 30-60 seconds slowly descending down and from around 45-50 feet, they would suddenly dive onto the prey. The success rate is quite low from what I have seen, but they do hunt a lot. A long remaining wish is to shoot them in flight with a green background - that still remains to be achieved.
