A Small Minivet with a catch
Stumbled upon a pair of these brightly colorful small birds on the trees adjacent to an embankment. The male in this picture caught the insect and shook it vigorously multiple times to kill it. The white specks seen here are from the moth and after a few hard shakes, the insect died. And the male immediately took it to a nearby female and shared the food. What we witnessed was a courtship ritual of the minivets. It was quite an interesting display and it happened 2 times in quick succession. Both then flew away to another tree.
These are resident birds in the subcontinent found throughout the year. They are better seen in winters when the food becomes abundant after rainfall and due to the moisture in the air. In summers, they do shift to places with a bit of water.
Thanks so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.
