A Black Redstart in action on the banks of a pond

A 2 year wait to get a decent shot of this bird is now complete! I only had long distance record shots before.

This is a migratory bird from Europe that winters in India. It is a flycatcher and prefers areas with lots of flies - like muddy banks of shallow water bodies, and semi-wet areas.

The male as in this picture is quite easy to identify, while the female lacks the colors and is a bit harder to identify from far.

The bird was foraging in a reserve forest area next to a pond which is nearly dry due to the onset of early summer here. He was on the forest floor foraging and then on these stumps for quite a while. After a patient 90 mins of trying, I finally sat down on the forest floor - which wasn't recommended and probably a silly move - the bird became comfortable allowing me to get this shot! I am delighted!
