A Shikra after a failed hunt
Sighted this raptor in a short birding trip near my home during the time the curfew was relaxed. This is prime nesting season for most of the birds in the subcontinent and the parents have to watch out for many predators .
But the Shikra is one that directly attacks nests of small birds such as Weavers, Prinias, Bulbuls, Sunbirds etc... The bird carefully surveys the nests, looks around when the parents are feeding the chicks to find the hidden nests and attacks. I suppose it was on a raid in the morning, but the nest was too close to the road, so when I drove by, the bird flew away.
Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback.
