my Chair for Dining ©1993
My very 1st chair.
Made in November of '93 for The Celebrity Chair Auction, ironically enough- held on the Grain-Trading floor of The Chicago Board of Trade.(where I worked for 9 years before "coming Out" as a Full Time Furniture Designer!)
All of the flatware is bent back- so as not to cause any discomfort.
Actually, it "sat" quite well....very good ergonomics-
considering it was my FIRST chair.
Later versions saw a modification of the legs (- the scroll.)
Once- in an elevator @ The Merchandise Mart in Chicago-
I showed a picture of this chair to the owner of
Shelby-Williams, a very large Contract Furniture Manufacturer...trying to impress him- that I too
designed furniture. Mr. (I don't remember was it Shelby,or Williams ) said to me- with a decidely Yiddish accent...........
"ya know what I call this? What I call this kinda chair?.......
A LIABILITY! - a liability waiting to happen!)<
Elevator doors open.......he leaves -
I stay -
