My son spotted two cicadas coming out of their shells in our back yard a couple nights ago. I pulled out my camera gear, tripod, card table and two chairs to reach the cicadas and document their "coming out". I used my digital camera, but in many shots actually used my dad's old micro lens, inching as close as possible to the insects. My son was a huge help with lighting, actually using a cell phone "flashlight app" to light the insects. He held the cell phone in place while I aimed and shot each of the photos. This was a fun event to share with my son. :)
