Dining Out...

... On the road¹ from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in 1963

We stopped on the way for a bite to eat.

The menu : One coconut and two Paludrine tablets washed down with a jug of Tiger beer. (one for the Road, so to speak).

‘Tis me, in another life, so long ago and far away!

On our way back, the following night, we were all attacked by a squadron of pesky mosquitoes² and bitten from head to toe while adjusting the headlights of our hired and tired jalopy; an old Mercedes taxi that had been sold to a car-hire firm because its roadworthiness could no longer be guaranteed. We only got wind of this little snippet after the event!

¹ The same stretch of road today (new tab) Malaysia's North–South

Expressway (E2) was first conceived in 1977 and finally completed in 1994. And not before time! Wikipedia

² The "I-smell-the-blood-of-an-Englishman" variety; in case you had in mind the World War II de Havilland type!

Best viewed in lightbox and on full screen (F11), of course!

Take care and many thanks for calling,

Colin
