Fundamentals of Genetics and Evolutionary Development

The Strangeland creatures may live in the cultural wastelands but with the inception of the intertubes all residents of the woods at the end of my garden have the benefit of a liberal education before leaving the nest. This morning as a supplement to their science class, they visited "The Chairman 8" www.flickr.com/photos/chairman8/4952216377/ to join the discussion about Lagomorphs vs Cavies. The conclusion was that the Jacabobs and Jacabunnies all come from a common ancestor in the family tree of Boreoeutherias. In particular they are all Glires.

The Pentapod felt a bit left out without a spine nor hair but I assured him that next week we'll peek back even further and see that at some point we too had relatives in common.

The only one who balked was the semi hairless humanoid who was entirely too proud of his oppositional thumbs. He'll be even more shocked when I tell him that many of the Old World Monkeys and all of the great apes too have thumbs like his.
