Deep in the Rain Forest
Hoh Rain Forest, Olympic National Park, Washington
A section of the Spruce Trail winds through the Hoh Rain Forest. The Hoh is a temperate rain forest, sitting on the west side of the Olympic Mountains, receiving over three meters (12 feet) of rain from the Pacific each year. Mosses, lichens and other epiphytes grow on the various trees which, depending on the species, can be quite large.
