San Gregorio Creek
The San Gregorio Creek flows from the Santa Cruz Mountains towards the Pacific Ocean, emptying out at San Gregorio State Beach.
There is a constant tug-of-war on the beach between the creek and the ocean. The ocean tides continually work to throw up a berm of sand on the beach. When the creek's water levels are low, water ponds behind the berm. But after a winter storm, the creek cuts through the sand and flows out to the ocean, reconfiguring the beach yet again.
