Iresa - 01

IRESA (Industrias Reunidas Espanolas, SA) was a Spanish brand whose headquarters were in the Madrid neighbourhood of Gindalera, the company was founded in 1949 by Antonio S de Baigorren and began by manufacturing auxiliary motors for bicycles.

The first engines manufactured by IRESA had a capacity of 48cc. Later they manufactured motorcycles that they equipped with their own engines that were either 65cc or 98cc.

In June 1953, IRESA presented its most powerful engine, a new 200cc model. This engine was a copy of the 197cc Hispano Villiers and had many problems mainly due to the poor-quality materials used in its manufacture. This was a common and almost unavoidable problem since the quality of the raw materials in 1950s Spain left much to be desired.

In addition to the production of motorcycles and motocarros, IRESA also manufactured microcars between 1955 and 1958, based on their 200cc engine. Sadly, after suffering a fire in its workshops, the firm went into decline and finally went bankrupt in 1962.
