Looking over the buffer stops at Balloch station towards the former Balloch Central station, closed on 23 April 1988. This allowed the level crossing over a busy road to be closed. The station building has been converted into the Tourist Information Centre, which was open on this dark, wet mid-winter day.
The railway continued on for half a mile to Balloch Pier, on the southern shore of Loch Lomond, this electrified section closed on 28th September 1986.
