Cold as Ice

Another frame from Svínafellsjökull. If only you were there. Realizing the scale of these blocks of ice is incredibly difficult without a point of reference. I'd guess that this particular mountain of ice is around 3-5 storeys tall. One thing many will notice when visiting a glacier or it's boundaries, is that they often have their own weather systems, often there is less wind than on the outside, and much cooler air. Sometimes it's so silent that you can hear the glacier breathing through it's cracks, like when you put an icecube into a glass of soda.

When working on this photo I remembered an idea that I had on my last trip, chances are that someone has had this idea before me, but maybe not, so here goes: Since most modern cameras feature a built-in electronic level, why not incorporate the rotation data into the EXIF of the image files, and giving us option of getting an instant, accurate level in programs like Lightroom? Because sometimes we don't have any point of reference for levelling a photo and have to rely on our gut feeling, which is silly since the camera technically knew it's horizontal axis at the point of capture.
