cheerleaders

Jessica Esquibel (left) and Candace Gonzales senior cheerleaders at West Las Vegas High School have been selected to be part of the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) coaching staff. The two cheerleaders will travel around the southwest teaching and instructing cheerleading squads from elementary, middle and high schools on routines in the areas of cheer, stunts and dance.

Gonzales and Esquibel were asked to try out and interview for the squad after attending a UCA Summer Cheerleading Camp at UNM last summer. UCA is considered arguably the best cheerleading instructional organization in the country. The two Lady Dons competed with cheerleaders against girls from Texas and New Mexico from both the high school and colligate level, they were judged on talent, poise, charisma and leadership skills. Only a select few make the squad annually and Candace and Jessica are the first girls from Las Vegas to ever get selected.
