First meetup

We had a turnout of 20 people, including the 4 co-organisers. The event was held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Two of the co-organisers stepped up to speak for our first event. Bosco Ho (Monash University) presented his biology animation work in traditional canvas rendering (2010)as well as a WebGL port (2015). His talk covered some basic knowledge of 3D interactions, camera interpolation, and interface design considerations.

After a short break with pizzas, Kristina Johnson (CSIRO) presented a collection of her prior works, from Maya rendered scientific visualisations of molecules and nanostructure surfaces to tracking sharks via GPS in collaboration with the team in Hobart, Tasmania. The work was visualised with Cesium, powered by WebGL, and she used D3.js to overlay detailed information.

Both speakers received many insightful questions from beginner's to expert's level. The crowd warmed up to each other after the two hours, and many exchanged contacts or arranged lunches on their own.

We have two generous sponsors. One being the Khronos Group standards body which provided us the financial means for pizza and drinks. The event space was offered in-kind by Common Code, a co-working space and a web design agency. Two people from Common Code attended this event, and they promised to return next year.
