No, you can't get very close. Plus, the areas where you can see the white house may be packed with people, all trying to get pictures with camera phones, compact cameras, and more. It was difficult to find a clear part of the fence in the crowd.
I like this shot, but wish I would have moved the camera lower so the fence and the White House didn't "touch" at the top. Oh well...
