Red-shouldered Hawk

Everglades National Park, Florida - The Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) is a medium sized hawk, often seen in the everglades perched on a cypress tree looking downward for prey. Small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, small birds, and large insects make up its diet. It has a piercing call that is often heard before the bird is spotted. Florida's Red-shouldered Hawks are much paler than those from the western United States.
