Rumbelows
Iconic British Shops that are no longer on our High Streets.
From buying your pick and mix in Woolworths to renting a video at Blockbuster, many of us often look back with nostalgia at visiting the high street as it was.
Sadly, here are but a few no longer with us......
Rumbelows was a British electrical and electronics retailer that was once a major player in the UK market, rivalling companies like Currys, Dixons, and Comet. It was established in 1949 by Sydney Rumbelow, who opened his first shop in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The company expanded significantly, absorbing other chains like NEMS and Strothers, and became known for both retail and rental of electrical goods. However, Rumbelows eventually faced financial difficulties and was ultimately closed by Thorn, its parent company, in 1995.
