Tour Ronde

The view of our target peak as we swung over the top of the Mer de Glace in the little aluminium telecabine. Tour Ronde is a great snow practice peak. View large to spot the two groups of climbers on the glacier and one pair starting the ascent.

Our ascent of the North face (straight up the middle of this pic) proved much more difficult than anticipated as the usual 60' snow plod had turned into water ice for most of the climb. The pro in place was way above our heads on the right rock wall and we had to use ice screws all the way. The planned quick ascent took us much longer and the descent was on testing loose boulders. All ended well and I made the bar at the Italian hut before closing time.
