Day 50 - Sonic The Hedgehog
First and most obviously!
...I mean "1991" here. Not "2006" :P
--------
Sonic The Hedgehog to me. Was a "system seller". I first played Sonic The Hedgehog at my friend Lorna's house (next door neighbour/ friend when I was about 5 or 6).
At the time I played Sonic at my friends house I just had my NES, and my Super Nintendo...
So the day I played this game was also the day I was EXPOSED to the legendary "SAAAYGAAAA"! Which also made it the day to which I would divide my love for Nintendo with another console and company (whom I still respect massively to this day, regardless).
Onto the game itself though. Sonic The Hedgehog was an amazing platform game that just exploded onto the scene with a totally new pace of play compared to much slower platformers at the time. Yet the game didn't rely on speed as a novelty to make it 'different'. Sonic The Hedgehog excelled for great level design and multiple branching paths within levels which were also very uncommon at the time.
Sonic also had a decent but fair element of challenge throughout the game, paired with 2 endings (the better one for managing to beat all bonus stages and collecting all emeralds).
In fact I believe I was still coming back to Sonic 1 to finally complete it even by the time I was loving up the sequels.
Oh and of course, let's not forget the truly amazing soundtrack this game had. Songs I still adore and get stuck in my head too this very day.
Shout outs go to the Gamegear/ Master System version too, albeit slightly different, it was still a great game.
My bad for the perhaps a tad inappropriate underwear exposure...but it had to be done >_<
**This year also marks the 20th Anniversary of Sonic The Hedgehog. I'll be highlighting the 10th anniversary on another day though ;)**
