A very bad idea

I decided to quilt all of these little boxes individually, which seemed like a good idea at the time but really is a horrible timesuck. I could not for the life of me figure out how to free motion quilt on my machine - the thread tension was working against me. So I ended up doing this the hard way. Fail!

A better plan would have been to start from the bottom and travel up, hang right and quilt a box, go up again, quilt a box on the left, repeat. Less starting and stopping and backtracking and cutting.

Regardless, I'm mostly happy with the way it looks. It's about 75% done - I still need to quilt the outer borders, which will have much larger squares. I'll finish up the quilting today, then all that's left is to square up the quilt and attach the binding.
