The North Ogilvies

Canada's far north hosts some of the world's few remaining expanses of wilderness. A back-channel of the Ogilvie River in the northern Yukon is seen here, not too far the Arctic Circle on a perfect autumn morning. The air here is as pure and clean as it gets, as demonstrated by the image clarity. Noticeable in areas like this, is the total silence, almost eerie, something we don't often experience.

With a land mass the size of France, the Yukon has a population of only 33,000 people. Most live in Whitehorse, the capital city found 1000k south of here. One is so removed from other humans in remote regions of the territory, it can even feel a little scary sometimes. Though I love to spend time in wilderness regions during the warm months, it's also a relief to get back to town, to be around lots of other people, the hustle, bustle and noise of everyday life. Though we rarely agree completely on anything, and often don't get along, it seems humans are social animals, biologically programmed to flock like sheep:)
