DESCRIPTION

"March 19, securing passage on Nittrowr's special Pullman's Sled, with camera and dry plates, we visited the GREAT SNOW CUT, which is located about one-fourth mile west of Mr. Geo. Capron's. It was from 40 to 50 rods in length, and about 8 to 10 feet high. Much time was spent and labor performed in removing this vast amount of snow from this Mammoth Drift, to open the way between Chesterfield and West Swanzey, which was completed that P.M. One-half dozen Views were made of this Deep Cut and Snow Arch, Workmen, Teams, etc. The west side of the Arch was ingeniously inlaid with mineral by Artist Richardson and bears the date 1888."
