Raspberry Pi 3 computer

An image of a Raspberry Pi 3 system board, next to a SD card adapter for size comparison.

The Raspberry Pi 3 is based on a 1.2ghz Arm Cortex quad core CPU and 1 GB of RAM. The board has a micro-USB power supply of 5V and 2.5A, a full sized HDMI connector, audio and video out, 10/100 ethernet and 4 USB 2.0 ports. It has a 40pin GPIO bus connector, as well as dedicated connectors for a camera and LCD display. New for the Pi 3 is onboard Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n wifi. It boots off of a microSD card, though it can use usb-based drives as well.

There are various flavors of Debian and Ubuntu Linux installations available for it, including standard desktop installs and for using the Pi as a media player/server. There are also installs of other systems such as RiscOS available. It's quite wasy to download an SD image and copy if from any desktop to the card for booting the Pi.

Taken with the Lumix G5, Nikon 50mm 1.4 lens and Olympus FL-36 flash.
