In general I feel a photo usually benefits from reduction to as few elements as are necessary to tell a story. If anything can be removed from the frame whilst still powerfully telling what I had in mind, I strive to remove it if I can through composition or, if necessary (since I often only have one prime lens with me) cropping. I imagine Hemingway would have photographed that way had he chosen a different medium.
